Mae and the Old Code

The little girl's name is Mae. She tells you in a soft voice that Mr. Pemberton was her grandpa. He taught her the secret code when she was very small. Before he passed away, he made her promise to find you one day.

Mae opens her notebook. Every page is full of his careful handwriting — and hers too. "Grandpa said you were the best codebreaker he ever knew," she whispers.

Your eyes fill with happy tears. You hug Mae close. Your old friend is gone, but here is a piece of him, smiling up at you. And now you have a brand new friend to share secret codes with.
