The Night That Didn't End

The candle goes out. The darkness rushes in like cold water, filling every corner of the hall.

Dawn never comes. Mosswick stays wrapped in deep, quiet night. The stars shine very bright outside — brighter than ever before.

Pip sits by the cold wick and makes a promise. "Next year, I will be braver." The stars flicker, as if they heard. As if they believe it too.
